1/17/2024 0 Comments Phoenix jones today![]() ![]() There were a couple moments that night where I thought my goose was cooked. I only wrote what I observed firsthand (though through a cloud of pepper spray, of course.) As I mentioned– it was a terrifying night. Phoenix Jones, who claims he is a “perfect crimefighter” doesn’t like me, because when I described the “Pepper Spray Incident,” the total shitshow of him attempting to break up a fight (alluded to in that chapter title), he became upset that it wasn’t a flattering portrayal. Jones and Me” and “People Fighting and Pepper Spray and Superheroes and…I Don’t Know,” the last title a quote from someone on the phone with 911. One of the most memorable moments of working on Heroes was a rather terrifying night I spent following RLSH Phoenix Jones in Seattle. I’m currently working on what I hope will be books 7 and 8. My book American Madness, which I think is my best, also spun out of this work (though it went in a very different direction). Since then, I’ve had five more books published. After many rejections from agents and publishers, I sold the book to Chicago Review Press in 2012. I also learned how to write a book and a lot about the writing process in general. More on that last city in a moment.ĭuring that process I met several people that I still consider to be friends today. I went out on patrol or participated in RLSH events in Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York City, New Bedford, Vancouver, San Diego, Portland, and Seattle. For years I worked my day job(s) and spent many nights on patrol with people who had adopted their own homemade superhero personas, a secretive subculture of Real Life Superheroes (RLSH). Writing that remains one of the great adventures of my life. It’s been almost ten years since my first book, Heroes in the Night: Inside the Real-life Superhero Movement (2013, Chicago Review Press) was published.

The prevalence and spread of COVID-19 vary greatly among ethnic groups, and the effects of and adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccines may also differ among ethnic groups, ,, ,, ,, ]. Because the vaccination campaign began very quickly, a lack of accurate information regarding adverse reactions is also linked to the tendency of younger people to refrain from vaccination. As a result, younger people who become infected can spread the infection and thereby constitute an important factor in perpetuating the pandemic. However, in Japan as well as other countries, vaccination tends to be avoided by young people. Large-scale vaccination is currently underway for all citizens over the age of 12 in the national plan of Japan. The target population was then expanded to people aged 65 years and over. ![]() Since February 2021, healthcare workers in Japan have been given first priority for vaccination with the Comirnaty® vaccine. The messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty®) and Moderna mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine (Spikevax®), have received emergency authorization for clinical use and have been shown to help protect high-risk groups from COVID-19 infection. The pandemic of coronavirus infection 2019 (COVID-19), which has spread to countries worldwide since the beginning of 2020, shows no sign of resolution as of the beginning of 2022. ![]() The stacking of different oxides disturbs the subtle equilibrium among various interactions, leading to a wealth of exotic quantum states, such as two-dimensional electron or hole gas at the interface of two insulating materials such as LaAlO 3/SrTiO 3 (LAO/STO) 3, 4, the spontaneous magnetic reversal in La 2/3Sr 1/3MnO 3 films 5, a ferromagnetic (FM) interface between nonmagnetic constituents 6, 7, polar magnetic metal phase in BaTiO 3/SrRuO 3/BaTiO 3 heterostructures 8, chiral ferromagnetism in SrRuO 3 films 9, and strain-induced superconductivity in RuO 2 films 10. It also provides a practical approach to engineer material systems via highly localized modifications in their structure and composition that may offer new routes to the design of oxide electronics.Ĭomplex-oxide heterostructures have been established as an effective engineering platform offering prospects to create tunable electro-magnetic functionalities, enabled by manipulation of the cooperative interplay between electronic spin, charge, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom 1, 2. The results highlight delicate nature of magnetic instability in CaRuO 3 and subtle effects that can alter it, especially the role of A-site cation in electronic and magnetic structure additional to lattice distortion in ruthenates. Atomically resolved imaging and density-functional-theory calculations reveal that the whole δ-doped film preserves the bulk-CaRuO 3 orthorhombic structure, while appreciable structural and electronic changes are highly localized near the SrO layer. However, δ-doping to middle of such CaRuO 3 films induces an insulator-to-metal transition and unusual ferromagnetism with strong magnetoresistive behavior. While bulk CaRuO 3 is metallic and nonmagnetic, films thinner than or equal to ~15-unit cells (u.c.) are insulating though still nonmagnetic. Here we report the emergence of unusual, thickness-dependent properties in ultrathin CaRuO 3 films by insertion of a single isovalent SrO layer (referred to as δ-doping). Heterostructures of complex transition metal oxides are known to induce extraordinary emergent quantum states that arise from broken symmetry and other discontinuities at interfaces. 1/16/2024 0 Comments Pink automatic shift knobs![]() These are usually shaped like a ball, and they are designed for racing. ![]() Other universal types that you can consider include JDM Duracon models, such as M8, M10, and M12 threaded shift knobs. Most clinicians will use an established mental status screening tool such as the Mini-Mental Status Exam (MMSE) or Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to determine if cognitive impairment is present. Available assessment tools range from those designed to evaluate a single neuropsychological domain, to mental status screens that survey multiple neuropsychological domains, to the most extensive test- a complete neuropsychological exam that assesses each neuropsychological domain. Each is carefully constructed to evaluate neuropsychological domains such as memory, language, executive function, abstract reasoning, attention, and visuospatial skills. There are many established tools used to conduct cognitive assessments. ![]() This detailed investigation of cognition can diagnose major cognitive impairment (i.e., dementia) and mild cognitive impairment, evaluate traumatic brain injuries, help determine decision-making capacity, and survey intellectual dysfunction. However, when cognitive impairment is suspected, the cognitive assessment can obtain a more detailed analysis by surveying the neuropsychological domains. Psychiatrists often perform cognitive testing during the Mental Status Exam. It is answered by the patient, family, or caregiver to indicate the presence of cognitive impairment. The cognitive assessment is useful to test for cognitive impairment-a deficiency in knowledge, thought process, or judgment. The questionnaire is useful to assess and monitor functional changes over time. ![]() The Functional Activities Questionnaire calculates the extent of the patient’s ability to engage in instrumental activities of daily living. Both anxiety and depression may affect cognitive assessment scores. This tool is a valid screening tool for gauging severity of generalized anxiety symptoms. More information about PHQ-9 can be found here. The PHQ-9 can be useful in clinical practice to assess depression severity and its symptoms. A score of greater than five indicates further evaluation. Score one point when the patient answer matches the test answer. The Geriatric Depression Scale can be useful for patients who have mild-to-moderate symptoms of dementia. Its use is granted by Washington University for clinical care purposes. No formal training is needed to administer the test. In combination with the Mini-COG, the AD8 is effective for detecting early cognitive change. The test consists of eight yes-or-no questions about changes in the person’s thinking, memory, and behavior. This brief 3-minute test was originally designed as an informant screening tool but has also been validated as a direct questionnaire for the patient. A one-hour Training & Certification module supports MoCA’s validity and was designed for busy medical professionals. Both an app and paper versions are available. It is easy to administer and score, and the results can be interpreted by the health provider with minimal training. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment is a quick and easy instrument that can be adapted for use in the clinical setting. This paper tool is helpful for clinics that serve linguistically diverse populations that have varying education levels. This validated short cognitive screening instrument is designed to reduce the impact of language and cultural differences on the results of screened individuals. Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS) Training for use of this tool takes about ten minutes. This is a free tool and is available in many languages. The Mini-Cog is a three-minute instrument for the patient that consists of two components: a three-item recall test for memory and a clock drawing test. |
